Isolation and partial characterization of a new virus causing acute haemorrhagic fever in Zaire.Lancet, 309, 569-571, 1977.The first of three papers published in Lancet back to back describing the discovery of Ebola Virus Disease. In this paper the authors described isolation of the virus, imaged it with an electron microscope, and named the virus. The second paper in the series was Bowen, E.T., Lloyd, G., Harris, W. J., et al, "Viral hemorrhagic fever in southern Sudan and northern Zaire. preliminary studies on the aetiological agent," Lancet, 309, 571-573.
