The artificial heart.Ciba Symp., 35, No. 6, 1983.First published report on the first successful "permanent" artificial heart operation, in which DeVries implanted the Jarvik-7 artifical heart in Barney Clark, a patient affected with end-stage congestive heart failure. The surgery took place on December 2, 1982; Clark lived for 112 days after the surgery.
