Zur Pathogenie der Impetigines.Arch. Anat. Physiol. wiss. Med., 82-83, 1839.The discovery of a fungus as the cause of favus (Achorion schönleinii). Schönlein communicated this important discovery in a letter of less than 200 words and one illustration. It represents the first conspicuous step in the attribution of disease to the action of minute parasites. Schönlein was the founder of modern clinical teaching in Germany.
