Traité complet de l’art du dentiste, d'après l'état actuel des connaissances. Par F. Maury. 2 vols.Paris: Gabon, 1828.Maury probably invented the dental probe. His book also shows one of the earliest illustrations of a dental mouth mirror. According to Quérard, F. Maury is the pseudonym of Auguste Tillet: "Table alphabétique de la plupart des auteurs qui ont écrit sur l'art du dentiste ou sur quelques-unes de ses parties" -- p. [465]-488. In the preface Maury acknowledges the assistance of Tillet, suggesting that it was Maury rather than Tillet who was the primary author. The work was translated with notes and additions by J. B. Savier, as Treatise on the Dental Art, Founded on Actual Experience (Philadelphia, 1843).
