A neurotropic virus isolated from the blood of a native in Uganda.Am. J. Trop. Med. & Hygiene, 20, 471-492, 1940.Order of authorship in the original paper: Smithburn, Hughes, Burke. In 1937 the authors isolated a virus from the blood of an adult female with fever from the Omogo West Nile district of Uganda, and named it West Nile virus.
